What to write in the explanation box

Up to date

In short

Every coding problem has an explanation field. By default it carries 30% of the problem's grade, and faculty can change the split.

What the grader looks for

  • Four rubric dimensions: clarity, technical accuracy, depth, and completeness.
  • Why the approach works and what trade-offs you made, not a line-by-line restatement of the code.
  • Your own words: what you decided and why, not a recap the grader could get from the code itself.

If faculty set the explanation weight to 0, the field is neither required nor graded.
