Assessly builds Blumvo, where students learn by doing and colleges teach, test and place them. We also research what helps students learn, and publish what we find.
About the team
Engineering builds Blumvo and keeps it running: the marking, the code runner, placements, the phone app and the desktop app students sit tests on. Colleges run real tests and real placement drives on it.
About the role
We need engineers who make it faster, sturdier and fairer, and who check their work before anyone asks.
What you will do
- Build marking: code run against hidden tests, and written answers marked with reasons faculty can read and change.
- Keep the code runner safe and quick while a whole lab sits the same paper.
- Build drives, eligibility and offers, on the web and on the phone.
- Send changes to the beta group, then to every college.
- Read the week’s errors and slow pages, and fix the worst.
- Review code, and have yours reviewed, before it ships.
Your first months
- Ship a small fix in your first week.
- Pick one part, marking, the code runner or placements, and learn it end to end.
- Plan and ship one feature a college asked for.
- Add a check that stops one kind of mistake from shipping again.
The tools
TypeScript and React on the web. React Native with Expo on the phone. An Electron desktop app for tests.
Postgres on Supabase, with edge functions. You will use AI coding tools every day, and you answer for what they write.
You may be a good fit if you
- Have built and shipped software people use, and can show us
- Write TypeScript, or another language well enough to learn it fast
- Know SQL, and how a database keeps one person’s data from another
- Test your own work before you ask for a review
Strong candidates may also have
- Experience with Postgres row security, Supabase or edge functions
- Experience with React Native or Expo
- Experience running untrusted code in a sandbox

Where you work: Remote, from anywhere in India.
Education: No degree needed. Your work and your answers count for more than where you studied.
Type: Full-time. When no role is open for your kind of work, we sometimes work with people on a contract.
